What is Neuro-Ophthalmology?

Neuro-ophthalmology is a sub-specialty of neurology and ophthalmology, specialising in the diagnosis of visual problems associated with the nervous system. Doctors in this specialty require additional training in expertise in problems of the eye, brain, nerves and muscles.

In preparation for your neuro-ophthalmology appointment, it is important that all of your relevant medical history has been forwarded through to the rooms. During this appointment a visual field test may be required as well as dilation of the pupils. In this case, the dilation can affect your eyesight for up to 4 hours so we recommend you have someone come along with you to drive you home.
